The TAKE IT DOWN Act represents a critical step forward in providing relief to victims of nonconsensual deepfake distribution. Nonconsensual deepfakes have proliferated across the internet at an alarming rate, with a significant and deeply troubling number depicting children.
We commend every Member of Congress who voted in support of this important legislation and extend our gratitude to Senators Cruz and Klobuchar for leading this effort.
The very need for this bill, however, is a stark reminder that platforms will not consistently act in the best interest of victims–particularly children–without clear legal mandates. It underscores the urgent need for broader protections and more comprehensive digital regulation reform.
We look forward to continuing our work with this Congress to advance common sense legislation to protect children and promote a safer digital environment.
