Kate Blocker, PhD

Director of Research and Programs

Kate is a developmental scientist with a passion for translating scientific research into resources that support holistic, healthy child development. In her role as Director of Research and Programs, she leads the Institute’s research initiatives, such as the Digital Media and Developing Minds Scientific Congress, the Interdisciplinary Research Grants Programs, and its own independent research reports. In addition to her work advancing scientific inquiry, she oversees the translation of research and clinical evidence for the Institute’s numerous public education programs and resources, including the Ask the Experts webinars and Screen Deep podcast, Research at a Glance digests, and other online resources. Through this dual focus on research and translation, Kate ensures that the Institute continues to bridge the gap between cutting-edge science and accessible, practical guidance for children’s healthy development in the digital age. She received her BA in Psychology from Elon University, followed by a MA and PhD in Experimental Psychology (Developmental Science) from the University of Alabama. In addition to her academic background in child development, Kate also has direct experience leading youth development programs and supporting families in her local community.
