Medha Tare, PhD

Senior Director of Research
Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop

Dr. Tare is the Senior Director of Research at the Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop. She earned her PhD in Developmental Psychology from the University of Michigan. Her work addresses the needs of the whole child, including individual differences among learners, their environments, and the media through which they learn. She was also a Learning Sciences Exchange Fellow through New America, working across sectors to promote early learning and help young children and their families thrive. She currently leads the Cooney Center Sandbox, an initiative to center children’s voices in the design of technology and media.

Funding/Conflicts of Interest: Dr. Medha Tare discloses that The Joan Ganz Cooney Center’s co-design work has been largely funded by grants from the Walton Family Foundation and the Robin Hood Learning and Technology Fund. We have also had service contracts with Mrs. Wordsmith and AERDF. The Cooney Center receives grants from foundations and corporate social responsibility departments at Pinterest, Google.org, foundry10, LEGO Foundation, Verizon, and Susan Crown Exchange.
