
Michelle De Mooy
Michelle De Mooy is the Director of the Tech and Public Policy program at Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy, where she designs and leads innovative programming aimed at turning research into impact and advancing democratic values in technology and policy. She was previously senior policy director for digital media for companies such as Conde Nast and Hearst and a consultant for Omidyar Network and other philanthropic organizations, where she helmed large-scale, innovative technology projects, such as the creation of a shared content and ad network for a news consortium and a data ethics assessment tool for venture capitalists. De Mooy was director of privacy and data at the Center for Democracy and Technology where she spearheaded groundbreaking work on federal privacy legislation, health privacy, algorithms and algorithmic bias and privacy by design initiatives such as a collaboration with Fitbit. She has advised government agencies, testified before Congress and international bodies and appeared in national press such as The Washington Post, The New York Times, NPR and Politico. De Mooy’s research explores governance for companion AIs, the design and sustainability of social technologies, algorithmic bias and the marketplace for digital trust.
