Dr. Ran Barzilay is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania and an attending Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. His research focuses on understanding the variability in health development among children and adolescents under stress. Specifically, Dr. Barzilay investigates the mechanisms of risk and resilience leading to suicidal behavior in youth, integrating clinical, biological, and environmental exposures (i.e., the exposome). He places particular emphasis on the role of the digital exposome in adolescent mental health, examining its impact—such as through cyberbullying—on mental health outcomes to inform effective prevention and intervention strategies.

Conflict of Interests: Dr. Ran Barzilay reports grants from the National Institute of Mental Health and from the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention. In addition, he serves on the Scientific Advisory Board and holds equity in Taliaz Health, with no relevance to the work presented here.
