Ellen Middaugh, PhD

Ellen Middaugh, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Child and Adolescent Development in the Lurie College of Education at San José State University. Her research examines the impact of emerging technologies on youth civic skills and engagement practices and the implications for civic education. She currently serves as PI on a US Department of Education American History and Civic Seminars grant focused on co-designing civic media literacy curriculum with high school social science teachers and co-PI on on the USDE Grant – AI is Only as Good as Its Users, which focuses on designing curriculum to teach undergraduate students AI Literacy Skills. Previously she served as Research Director for the Mills College Civic Engagement Research Group and network coordinator for the MacArthur Foundation Research Network on Youth and Participatory Politics.
