Arthur Schwartz, EdD
Arthur was an executive at the John Templeton Foundation for 15 years, where he had the opportunity to catalyze research and programs on youth purpose, forgiveness, gratitude, empathy, grit, and other character strengths. He is widely-known for collaborating with Martin Seligman at the University of Pennsylvania to energize the field of positive psychology. He proudly served as the Senior Scholar at the United States Air Force Academy, where he chaired the task force that developed the Academy’s current conceptual framework for developing “leaders of character.” Arthur has also served as the Endowed Professor of Leadership Studies and the Founding Director of the Oskin Leadership Institute at Widener University in Philadelphia. After serving on the Character.org board for 10 years, he had the honor of serving as the organization’s President and CEO (2020-2025). Arthur’s current research focuses on the dynamics of moral courage during adolescence. He received his doctorate in moral development from Harvard University.
